COASTAL GRAND MALL
Myrtle Beach, SC

Coastal Grand Mall is a 900,00+ wq. ft., 130+ store retail shopping mall located in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Mall project along with the associated service roads and out-parcels and parking areas occupy over 200-acres.

With new water quality standards and a receiving waterbody that was deemed impaired by the EPA, Castles Engineering designed innovative water quality management techniques to control stormwater for the site and meet the strict wate quality standards demanded by SCDHEC-OCRM.  This was accomplished to bring one of South Carolina's largest malls to Myrtle Beach.

RIPLEY'S AQUARIUM
Myrtle Beach, SC

Haled as South Carolina's Most Visited Attraction, Ripley's Aquarium boasts 87,000 square feet with a 750,000-gallon tank.  Castles Engineering provided the expertise in civil engineering and surveying required to design this specialty project for South Carolina.  Castles worked closely with the specialty design team for this project to make sure that the site, utility, drainage and layout needs were met during the design phase.  During construction Castles provided timely, personal attention to the needs of the construction team to meet the demands of an aggressive construction schedule.

NASCAR SPEED PARK & CAFE
Myrtle Beach, SC

The first NASCAR theme park and Cafe in the world and the prototype for future parks was designed and constructed in Myrtle Beach, SC, and Castles Engineering led the way with civil engineering and surveying services for the park and cafe.  With 7 tracks, 2 miniature golf courses, bumper boats, amusement rides and a full scale restaurant this project is located on 30 acres.  As the park was designed and constructed, Castles worked hard to ensure that the park was both functional and fun, setting the bar for parks to come.

PRINCE GEORGE
Georgetown, SC


A 1700 Acre Residential Community. Castles Engineering, Inc. was hired by Kimley-Horn and Associates to perform complete engineering design and permitting of water, sewer, roads, and drainage for this oceanfront community consisting of 122 homesites and clubhouse facility. CCE worked closely with Newkirk and Associates in the permitting of wetland impacts in an environmentally sensitive area. The project consists of over 2 miles of entrance road plus 3 pump stations with one having to pump wastewater over 3.5 miles. CCE did all the computer modeling and stormwater management of this project that was immediately adjacent to critical marsh and ocean.

ARROWHEAD COUNTRY CLUB

Myrtle Beach, SC


Castles Engineering, Inc. did complete stormwater management plans and permitting of this 300 acre 27-hole golf course and residential development located along the ICWW. Included was design and permitting of 2000 l.f. of rip rap bank stabilization along the ICWW and transfer pump in the waterway to keep irrigation lake full during summer months.

RIVER HILLS GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

Little River, SC


CE in conjunction with a private consultant performed all wetlands inventory, permitting and mitigation for this 18 hole golf course and residential development by designer Tom Jackson. CE designed the roads, water, sewer, and stormwater drainage system for the golf course and 600 residential lots. CCE designed a series of weir structures along the creek in order to store water for irrigation to be used during drought periods. This design was such that it could pass a 100 year storm event without flooding the golf course or residential homes.

THE LONG BAY CLUB

Longs, SC


This development consisted of 350 acre, 18-hole gold course designed by Jack Nicklaus with adjacent 600 unit residential community. CCE was responsible for designing the water, sewer, roads, and the stormwater system to handle to project runoff. All stormwater had to be piped underground such that all runoff was directed to a series of lakes that served as water storage for irrigation. Due to the flat terrain (less than 1' fall per 1000'), pipes had to be designed to carry 25 year storm events even though they were programmed to always be half full of water.

BROADWAY AT THE BEACH

Broadway at the Beach is one of the largest festive entertainment complexes in South Carolina.  This 350-acre site features theaters, 20 restaurants, over 100 specialty shops, 15 attractions, 11 nightclubs, and 3 hotels, all surrounding a 23-acre lake.   Castles Engineering was involved from the conception of this Governor's Cup Award-winning, tourist destination.  Through careful planning and design of stormwater, utilities, and site layout, Castles helped to make this destination a gem of the East Coast.

FANTASY HARBOUR

Myrtle Beach, SC


A 200 acre entertainment/retail/restaurant development complex for WCI Investments, Inc. Includes complete masterplanning, design, permitting and construction services for the development of an entertainment complex including a 2000 seat theater , Magic on Ice, Cercle Theatre, and Medieval Times. Also included was the upgrading of 1 mile of state road from 2 lanes to 5 lanes and new design of 3 miles of a 4 lane boulevard with planted medium.

COASTAL FEDERAL FIELD
Myrtle Beach, SC

The current home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, this 4,234-Seat stadium is located on a 20-acre site in the heart of Myrtle Beach.   Coastal Federal Field was an engineering challenge due mainly to soli constraints, and a tight budget & timeline.  Castles rose to the occasion and through a team effort with the many design professionals brought the dream of a stadium to Myrtle Beach.

RIVER OAKS GOLF PLANTATION
Myrtle Beach, SC


Our firm was responsible for all engineering including the stormwater management design and permitting. This was a very sensitive project because of its location being adjacent to the ICWW and to the City of Myrtle Beach drinking water intake structure which is less than 1 mile away. Value engineering of previous recommendations has saved the client $400,000.00 in construction costs. Work was also performed on the design, permitting, and construction services for a 250 unit residential development adjacent to the golf course.

MYRTLE BEACH MARRIOTT RESORT HOTEL & OCEAN WATCH TIMESHARE AT GRANDE DUNES
Myrtle Beach, SC

When Marriot International decided to build a world-class resort in Myrtle Beach, they chose Castles Engineering for their civil engineering and land surveying needs.  This 400+ room resort includes conference facilities, pools and amenities set on a beautiful campus along the Atlantic coast.  With an environmentally challenging, oceanfront site, and the challenge to create a unique resort in Myrtle Beach, Castles Engineering provided the hands-on, client-focused service demanded by a world leader in hotel and resort accommodations.

BUCK CREEK GOLF COURSE
Longs, SC


This course is located adjacent to the navigable waters of Buck Creek Canal and the Waccamaw River. Of the 319 acres involved in the project, 165 acres were jurisdictional wetlands or river swamps. CCE along with their wetland consultant provided wetlands inventory, permitting, and mitigation for this extremely sensitive project.The golf course was designed on the highland areas and plays along and through the wetlands. Eight acres of lakes were excavated in the wetlands for stormwater retention and irrigation storage.

CCE masterplanned this 650 acre site to include a 140 slip marina, 27-hole TPC Arnold Palmer golf course, 2300 residential units composed of single family lots, multi-family townhomes, and 4 high rise condominiums, and a 150 room hotel with conference center.

Municiple Projects

City Of North Myrtle Beach

Associated Land Surveyors provided all surveying services for the Beach Renourishment Project for North Myrtle Beach. Castles Engineering, Inc. has worked closely with the City of North Myrtle Beach Public Works Department on the following roadway/drainage projects: Cenith Roadway; Holloway Circle; Central Park Recreation Center; Timber Ridge Roadway. Other projects include Fire Station #4, Holloway Circle, Transfer Station and the Municipal Complex.

Horry County. SC

Castles Engineering, Inc. and Associated Land Surveyors have provided engineering and surveying services for the engineering department of Horry County on the following projects: Horry County Industrial Park; Seahorse Drive, Surfwind Drive and Martin Dr. Improvements; Lincoln Heights Road Improvements; E. Country Club Road Improvements; and Carroll Road. These services include field survey, engineering design, and construction staking. Other projects inlcude the Little River Fire Station, Horry County Industrial Park, the Socastee Fire Station, the Jetport Expansion and the Windy Hill Fire Station.

City Of Myrtle Beach Projects

CCE/ALS provided the City of Myrtle Beach their services on various projects within the city limits, some of which included water and sewer design as well as roadway and drainage. These included: Chester Street; Withers Swash Roadway and Waterline; Central Parkway Extension (water and sewer); 36th Avenue N. Sewer Extension; Water and Sewer Alternatives from 10th Ave. N. Extension up US Highway 17 Bypass.

26th Ave. N. Streetend Park - CCS developed a park for this area that included parking and added restrooms, decking, wash stations, and landscaped passive areas for sitting and relaxing.

Chester Street - Designed and provided construction services of renovations from 1st Ave. S. to 8th Ave. N. These improvements consisted of adding concrete curb and gutter, underground drainage and resurfacing of the roadway.

Withers Swash Drive - Improvements to approximately 2600 ft. of Withers Swash Dr. and a portion of Oak St. south of 3rd Ave. including waterline extension, addition of curb, gutter and underground drainage, and roadway resurfacing.

Futrell Park Gazebo - CCS designed an economical wood deck and roof that would be located over the edge of the lake.

Redevelopment - Though not for the City of Myrtle Beach but as a part of the redevelopment efforts for downtown Myrtle Beach, CCE/ALS provided all layout, grading, utility design, and construction staking for the expansion of the Pavilion Amusement Park. This project was on a fast-track schedule due to its tourist related activities and included major ride installations and building additions.
